I too am a person not wanting to take the all-in Rob Bell is bad approach... I like his Nooma videos and have found encouragement from his podcasts. Lastly, several of my friends have found encouragement and grown spiritually from some of his teaching.

I find it hard for him... with a straight face... to say God was not angry at times in the OT. When I read the two blogs that you mention and their summaries of his talk, it seems as if he is saying something along those lines. It would be a serious translation foul for all the times in the OT where it says ...and God was angry or ...God displayed his wrath. What about the bargaining with man and God we see... as a result of God being angry with man.

I don't know fully how I feel about God's anger being removed from the New Covenant... God is unchanging. I find it hard that a God who is described as love... who is also the creator of all that is good, could not get angry with sin and injustice. If Jesus was sent to teach us that God is not angry with us and to help us understand that... why didn't he say this.

If Rob Bell was saying that God is not angry with the saved/elect... whatever your persuasion... then I would say well... yeah! Due to the work of Jesus we can receive the Holy Spirit and be made righteous before God. This would take away God's anger toward us (saved/elect). If this was the intent of Rob Bell's whole talk... nothing new there! This theology has been around for some time.

I believe in an attempt to use controversy and irony for an audience... Rob Bell skirts the line. I am not going to say he crosses it or if he crossed it with this TGAA tour... I was not there, I am only reading people's notes. In Rob's attempts to engage people in a conversation about God's intentions he could unintentionally lead people into some shaky theology.

I like Rob Bell and think he is very gifted... I just don't know what to think of his theology.

I think that the new schedule looks awesome!! It seems like all of these things will just serve to bring us closer to God and gain a greater understanding of His Kingdom and our part in it. Great idea!!!

In reading your post, I was reminded of how much God loves us and what a blessed people we truly are and that reminded me of this verse from Nehemiah 9:17 - "They (Israel) refused to obey; nor were they mindful of Your wonders and miracles which You did among them; but they stiffened their necks and in their rebellion appointed a captain, that they might return to their bondage (in Egypt). BUT YOU ARE A GOD READY TO PARDON, GRACIOUS, AND MERCIFUL, SLOW TO ANGER AND OF GREAT STEADFAST LOVE; AND YOU DID NOT FORSAKE THEM." Hallelujah! This very same heart of God is in us by His Spirit and He is stirring us up to release His grace and His mercy into the needs all around us. Praise God for all that He is giving us the opportunity to do in this time in His Name. Love ya, Z.

That is awesome. I'll have to tell Mark when I hang out with him every day this week how my brother thinks his sermons are good!
But seriously, it is the truth - the Bible is like no other book. How can we read it over and over and be invigorated by it each time, like it's brand new? Only because it contains Christ, connects us to Christ, fills us with the life of Christ. It's an incredible thing.

ZZ-I ran across the Road to Emmaus scriptures today and it reminded me of how the Lord is so faithful to draw alongside of us in our daily journey and reveal more of Himself to us as we listen to His voice and search the scriptures for HIM. Have a glorious Journey Session!
